From Electrobel to Owdio
Owdio comes from Electrobel — and we’re proud of it. Back in 2003, Electrobel went live in Belgium as a place for electronic music makers to share their work and actually meet up. The twist? Instead of one giant global feed, each country got its own portal—so the site was a meeting point for people who could show up at the same gigs and events. France, the Netherlands, the UK and Ireland, Italy: same idea, local roots.
Everything was free to stream and download, under Creative Commons. The project was recognised at the 2005 World Summit Youth Awards. The Belgian site is still there at be.electrobel.org—a time capsule of that era.
Owdio picks up where Electrobel left off: same focus on artists and community, new tools, and no need to stick to one country.
